FEB 2024 -
Stump Up for Trees brought 1,200 trees and a load of brilliant, experienced, passionate volunteers to help us plant them all! We planted over 200m of native hedgerow and 2 shelter belts of taller trees such as alder, goat willow, cherry and oak along the boundary line of what will become the orchard field. There was some discussion around whether to use the plastic guards, but after speaking to a neighbour, agreed that the risk of loosing upto 20% of the plants was worth avoiding, especially as we will be around to tend and remove the guards once the trees are ready.
We were reflecting on the magic that can happen when people are working together towards a positive common goal. The group was so efficient and (as well as the trees), many connections and ideas were seeded. AND IT WAS FUN! People ARE powerful. Cooperation can be (r)evolutionary.
We are so grateful (and slightly overwhelmed) by this incredible opportunity we now have to put things in the ground and to watch them grow. To beginnings...
